 PARENT EDUCATION

Programs for expectant and new parents.

This two and a half hour class, led by a Certified Lactation Consultant, discusses the advantages of breast milk and provides participants with practical information and strategies for successful breastfeeding.  Positioning, latch-on, pumping, how to tell if the infant received enough to eat and maternal nutrition are all discussed. 

Partners are encouraged to attend.

Classes are offered three times a month on a weekday evening or weekend day.

Class fees include registration for the expectant mom, a support person and all materials.  

 

Latch Hour is for new moms with babies four weeks old and younger who may need extra guidance from a certified lactation consultant.  In this group setting, review what you learned about breastfeeding during your hospital stay and refine your techniques, so that breastfeeding is comfortable for you and effective for your baby.  Space is limited to 4 moms per session.

Focusing on natural childbirth (Lamaze), the class provides the mother-to-be, and her coach, the opportunity to learn about the birthing experience.  The class includes discussions on pain-relief options and cesarean delivery.

The class is offered on three consecutive Monday evenings, or as an all day class on a Saturday or Sunday (Please bring 2 bed pillows).

  • Monday classes are from 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
  • Saturday classes are from 9:00 am - 4:00 pm
  • Sunday classes are from 10:00 am - 5:00 pm

    (Weekend classes include a lunch break)

In the 30-minute tour of the labor and delivery suite in the New Life Center, you will learn what to expect from the childbirth experience at NYU Langone Hopsital-Long Island. Our L&D nurses will guide you through what happens from when you arrive at the hospital to delivery, discharge, and your return home. You can ask any questions you have about the NYU Langone birthing experience. 

 

 

Whether you are weeks or months away from giving birth, you will benefit from yoga poses designed to increase flexibility, strengthen the plevic floor muscles and alleviate many common discomforts of the changeing body. In this 4-week class, you will practice breathing techniques and meditation to promote focus and relaxation. 

(Please bring a personal yoga mat).

The book required for this class will need to be picked up from the Welcome Center before class. We will contact you to schedule that pick up date and time.

At this one hour instructor-led virtual class you will learn infant CPR and choking relief using your own personal American Heart Association CPR learning kit.  This kit includes an inflatable Mini Baby CPR learning mannequin, CPR Skills Practice DVD, fold-out Quick Reference Skills Reminders, sanitizing wipes, MiniBaby spare lung and a practice phone.  The kit can be taken home to share with family and friends at the end of the course.

Class fees include registration for the expectant mom, a support person and all materials, plus zoom link.

Their is a kit required for this class that will need to be picked up from the Welcome Center before class. We will contact you to schedule that pick up date and time.
